Translator Profile: My name is Beate Kaebel, and while I am a "new kid on the Internet," I am far from a novice to the world of translating. I am a native speaker of German with master's and teaching degrees in both English and History from the University of Stuttgart, Germany. My academic background includes an exchange year at the University of Georgia, Georgia, USA, as a graduate student of English and an undergraduate student of History on a scholarship by the DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst/ German Academic Exchange Service). My studies of the humanities and social sciences not only schooled me in literature, linguistics and a wide range of other areas, but also honed my skills as a translator. Beyond this solid academic background, I have dealt with translating as well as the English and German languages per se during years as a tutor and teacher of both as native, second and foreign languages. The last six years of living in the U.S. round off a thorough immersion in my second language. I love language, and the adequate treatment and appreciation of the word, whether in its original language or in a translation, are matters very dear to me. For this reason and the obvious wish to provide you with topnotch service, I guarantee you translations that go beyond mechanical transpositions of pieces of vocabulary from one language into another, but that truly capture the spirit and nuances of your original text.
